Meet Michael K Roon, owner of Michigan Coast Riders. He’s been a loyal MSU Gran Fondo volunteer since year one!
Q: Mike, this is your fourth year volunteering with us. What brought you back again in 2016?
It’s a great event for a great cause!
Q: What volunteer jobs have you most enjoyed? What role will you be playing this year?
I SAG (support and gear) for the 80 mile loop every year, and will again this year. Before the ride, Michigan Coast Riders and Alger Bikes are teaming up to offer free training rides starting May 3 until the event. Also, MCR is donating a raffle prize of a FREE Fall Color Tour at the Finish Line Festival.
Q: You have a strong connection to the cycling community here in West Michigan. How else do you get involved?
Yes I do. I support most events here in the Grand Rapids Area with SAG support. I own Michigan Coast Riders Bicycle Touring Company, I have worked at Alger Bikes for 16 years, and my wife and I lead two community group rides each month throughout the summer months.
Q: What is your favorite part about being involved with the MSU Gran Fondo?
The people from the organization, the vendors and the riders.
Q: Why should others consider becoming a volunteer?
This is such a well organized event. It is just fun to do and be associated with. And what great cause. The sponsors are not only generous with their dollar donations but with promoting a healthy life style for their employees.
Thanks for all you do for the MSU Gran Fondo, Mike!
